sailing boat club will start their racing season on lune 17th and on july lst their long distance race will be held from st jeonro's te somerset following are the re-sults of reffles conducted at the xorth village junior band com munity fete at devonshire recreation field last week may see good cricket at arena the young men's social club will be at home to the somerset cricket club to morrow in the first of their annual games the match will be played at the bermuda sports arena starting at li a.m round trip to new york won by mrs ethel pavnter ticket no 181 chremie din n-#e set won by mr anuy jacobs ticket xo 41 ; pop-up toaster won by mr john holdipp ticket xo 5 niix dusting off the sports successful track meet at st george's master won by ii phillipps ticket xo 2 hamper of rroceries wem by hunger stops ticket no 36 gate prizes unclaimed xos 263 anel 335 good times by runners ; cardinals sweep field been superior to former gatherings of this sort it was nevertheless gratifying and encouraging iu view of future plans seniors and juniors participated in the various events by stabilizer softball is enjoying a measure of popularity in tlie land and now the somerset eagles up at white hill are trying their hand at baseball so far it is only in the junior stage but such as it is they are displaying considerable keenness over the game there is something to be saiel for these two games anel they should be encourageel but not nearly as much as football anel cricket cricket and foot ball belongs to us it is part of our heritage and to cricket we owe a great deal more than we can ever repay we mean as a people the game has meant something to us and it could mean more it appears to me we should not go haywire over softball and baseball to such an extent that we are apt to neglect soccer and cricket this could happen you know social club have a strong batting and bowling side but their fielding hasn't been up to previous standard if it keeps up they should give the scc team a good game from start to finish somerset was nearly beaten by the somers isles league team last week when only five runs separated the scores at the finish a release from alum champ hunt who organized llic track met at st george s last thursday states the royal birthday track meet ing held at the garrison field last thurselay afternoon was keenly contested and very much enjoyed by a large crowd of interested specta tors it is the largest crowd to attend a track meet of any sort for some years and al though the standard of com petition may not have have st anthony's mission the meet was a clean sweep for the st george's group who have adopted the name cardi nal amateur athletic club the west end group better known as the somerset amateur athletic club were beaten but not outclassed the somerset group won the 220 for boys in 25.7 seconds with daniel jaines the winner annual bazaar empire field warwick the game tomorrow will be a major cricket attrae'tion ir the centre and no doubt n will be well attended by lovers of the game who want to see some action there are no major changes in the teams monday june llth to june 16th the two groups next meet in somerset on june 21 we do not like the argument and ranting which all too frequently becomes a dominant feature in softball and baseball it may be regarded as a part of the game in the states anel entertainment for spectators but it is not the sort of thing we want to encourage in our games so beware you softballers and baseballers of the value and import ance of restraint to us as a people iu all of our games
