were packed on monday night with hundreds who waited up to give a special welcome to the new year at st paul's a.m.e church hamilton hundreds turned out for th traditional watch night service conducted by the pastor the rev dr kelly a collins two new scholarships ten able at the berkeley institute for central school pupils have been given by mr james dick richards proprietor of the canadian hotel and bene factor of various educational projects the awards are for five years in the first instance with provision of an additional year on the recommendation of the berkeley principal social security the commit tee reported that it had written the governor requesting a statement as to when the social security sickness and work men's accident benefit act 1949 would be put into force the reply given was that no funds had been provided for operation of the act as a re sult of this the committee recommended that a special tax possibly on radio and tele vision sets be levied to say that concern over devalua tion of benefits payable by lodges to members for sick care and burial costs had led them to seek the advice of mr donald fisher a bermudian residing in canada he reported that similar difficulties facing organizations in canada had been met through the credit union system which was oper ated similar to a bermvyia gift club the city commission has discontinued night bus runs for the new year holiday period but today's assailant found concealment in the pre dawn , the white citizens council sought to arouse opposition to integration in tallahasse fla where
