the two different economic roups now exwting in europe — thc six-power economic commun ity or common market and the two leagues turned in a hot game at the baa field last sunday the 3-:j result was clean inucr in which the game was played george sousa was nially kicked over the right eye when he fell down in tiont of one of the bfl players the inter league match at the baa field saw the ber muda football league team come from a 3-1 deficit and tie up the match at 3-3 by common consent among thc spectators it was a good game fast and hard both teams missed chances to get import ant goals some of thc chances to score were very rosy at times for about twenty min utes the bermuda football combination team were all over thc bfl it was at that time that they piled in two very quick goals six-nation common market h>d the trade area seven-nation tree wade opened the scoring for the game with a beautiful goal with his head it made up for an earlier miss when he was but ten yards from his opponents goal the bfl for wards were finding it difficult to penetrate the bfc defence which remained tight all through the match goals in strasbourg mr lloyd did his utmost to straighten out nee and for all these strange distortions of british policy the british he said regard themselves as part of europe even if they are also members of the commonwealth and like many other european coun tries of the atlantic commun ity xext he categorically de nied that britain was opposed to the six a strong political unity of the six he said is good for western europe and for britain we welcome it wc will support it — provided of course that it does not de velop into a high-tariff protec tionist group nor an inward looking political group in op position to a larger europe or vato but at the same time there is a marked reluctance to enter either ii only because such a course might expose high-cost domestic producers to foreign i mpetition with which they mijf'it be unable to cop 1 . although the 3-3 result was a just one for both cam it can also be said to have been close too either side could have won that match both missed what ap peared to be some easy chances in both half's of the game sammy desilva equalised for the bfc with a nice solo ef fort h different story when they came back to play tn"e second halt bfl had some new life and they made good use of it they not only kept their before half time the bfc forwards woke up and scored two quick goals cabral hit the second bfc goal which added to the dis comfort of the bfl bfc •\ . rent done yet two minutes later grasshopper desilva slammed in the third goal this made it 3-1 for the com bination at half time the second team of the ber muda football league were more successful in their match which was played at 1.30 the bfc team were outplayed for most of the game only good defensive work by their centre half kept the bfl score from mounting still higher mcc jumped on the jamaica colts in jamaica but thc young fellows came back with some fight still left in i hem mcc will find jamaica a little harder to beat when the two teams meet soon all eyes will be on the test match tin re after the display from the crowd the public will be watching to lee what happens the match was witnessed by his excellency the governor major general sir julian gas coigne who arrived at the ground in time for the second half of play about twenty four hundred people were at match as for the seven mr lloyd -•■<! that thev are hostile to no group and certainly not to the six if thev had ban britain would not have joined them instead britain sees the e f t a as the first step towards ccouomic unity in europe with the six this problem of unity is now to be tackled by a new group of representatives from eighteen european countries the unit ed states and canada and the european commission the dif ficulties as mr lloyd said are too big to expect a quick and easy answer but the need for unity is urgent and the re sults of failure would be very serious europe therefore has to face the challenge success fully play started briskly in th second half maeky simmons virgil and l'hilpott gave them trouble wade scored from a hard drive which went into the net from the crossbar ten minutes before time virgil scored bfl's third goal from a long shot which had the goalie hayward well beaten the teams tried hard for the extra goal but time ran out mid it never came but it seems likely that par liament will g.t around to discussing a frc trade mea sure this tea oa though not a attire in which the sixes and sevens as the m mber states oi the two european trade groups are called will be involved the mcc cannot be coming by here as was first men tioned some time ago we believe it would be better if thc " ' eal out a team from england rn play here rather than have the team now in the west indies stop by ter still why not ask the west indies cricket board of control to send a team here from the west indies to p'ay i series of matches against local sides it might be i h aper than trying to bring a team all the way out from england this should have been done many years ago when the heat was on and the whole population was eric ket minded they still are cricket minded but in those the counter attractions were fewer than they are now we venture to say such a move had it been made then would have been a huge success from start to finish the cricket players in bermuda would have gained some valu al k experience from the association and so would the visitc we have to thank our slow moving board of control for getting exactly nowhere in such a long time both teams started fast in thc first game a battle of the bv and mansfield smith in the bfl goal was called into play early iu spite of the play which went to the bfl team mc*t of the time they could only score one goal in the first half it came from lion player r beach a few minutes later lynn of baa equalised the half ended at 1-1 bfl put on the pressure when play resumed they struck three times twice by roae^and once by darrell m defence was good goal keeper horvath much applause bending bfroin defeat eldon bn kjfl a players a george
